HIT-AND-RUN SUSPECT RAMS LAW ENFORCEMENT IN GETAWAY, RELEASED ON PERSONAL RECOGNIZANCE
Salisbury, MD - On July 11, 2024, at approximately 5:14 pm, Wicomico County Sheriff's Office Deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 500 block of Swan Rd, Salisbury, Maryland, for a vehicle that just hit a house. A caller reported that the driver of the suspect vehicle was intoxicated.
Deputies arrived to see the suspect vehicle, a 2019 Chevy Equinox with heavy front-end damage, fleeing from the scene. Deputies attempted to stop the Equinox, but the vehicle fled.
After a short pursuit, the Deputies were able to stop the vehicle. The driver and only occupant, Karli Church, then rammed a Wicomico County Sheriff's Office cruiser and ran over a curb to escape the traffic stop.
Deputies again pursued the vehicle, at which time Church drove recklessly and ignored traffic laws. Church drove the Chevy Equinox to the Rt 50 Bypass, where she lost control and hit a guardrail.
Church continued to flee and exited the Salisbury Bypass, heading back towards Salisbury, Maryland. Deputies stopped the Chevy again on Adventist Drive and West Rd, where Church was placed under arrest.
Deputies found that Church was under the influence. She was then taken to Tidal Health for treatment. At that time, Deputies applied for and received an arrest warrant for Church.
Once she was released from Tidal Health, which was early on July 12, 2024, she was then arrested and taken to Central Booking. Church was released on her personal recognizance pending trial.
Church has been charged with the following:
- Driving under the influence
- Failure to stop after an accident (3 counts)
- Fleeing and Eluding Uniformed Police (2 Counts)
- Reckless Driving
- Negligent Driving
