House Fire in Federalsburg Displaces Two Residents

Federalsburg, MD - A structure fire occurred on the afternoon of November 19, 2025, in Federalsburg, Dorchester County, Maryland. The incident took place at a one-story, wood-frame single-family dwelling located in the 4800 block of Webster Street.

The fire was discovered by an occupant at approximately 2:40 PM. Smoke alarms were present in the home and activated, alerting the resident who was asleep at the time.

The occupant successfully escaped through a bedroom window. There were no reported injuries to the residents. However, three dogs and one cat perished in the fire.

The Hurlock Volunteer Fire Department served as the primary responding agency. A total of 45 firefighters responded to the scene. The fire was brought under control within 15 minutes.

The preliminary cause has been determined to be accidental, stemming from an electrical failure in the kitchen area. The estimated loss is $200,000 for the structure and $100,000 for its contents.

Two residents have been displaced and are currently receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.
