HUMAN REMAINS FOUND IN VEHICLE FIRE IN QUANTICO MARYLAND

Quantico, MD - On Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at approximately 11:43 AM, the West Side Volunteer Fire Company (Station 12) and Hebron Volunteer Fire Departments (Station 5) were alerted to a vehicle fire in the 23000 block of Nanticoke Road in Quantico, Maryland.

Upon arrival, around 15 firefighters found a 2000 GMC Sonoma pick-up truck ablaze behind a residence in the area. Despite the intensity of the fire, the team efficiently brought it under control within 20 minutes, only to make a grim discovery - human remains in the vehicle.

The Deputy State Fire Marshals were called to the scene to determine the origin and cause of the fire. Maryland State Police also arrived to assist in carrying out a detailed death investigation in collaboration with the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

After several hours of examining the vehicle and interviewing potential witnesses, the cause of the fire remains unknown and remains under investigation.

The discovered human remains have been moved to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore, Maryland, to establish a positive identification and ascertain the exact cause of death.
