ICE Deploying Additional Personnel To BWI Starting Today!
State of MD - Earlier today, Maryland Governor Wes Moore announced that the Maryland Aviation Administration has been informed that ICE is deploying additional personnel to BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) starting today.
Moore stated that "We have been told by ICE their personnel will provide operational support and assist at Transportation Security Administration - TSA security checkpoints to speed up the clearance process for passengers - not immigration enforcement. Passenger and baggage screening responsibilities will remain with trained, skilled TSA personnel."
Moore continued by saying, "The federal government needs to get its act together, pay TSA officers, and stop asking ICE agents to do work far outside their scope.
As airports across the country continue to deal with long waits, travelers with upcoming flights should plan ahead, arrive early, and closely monitor airport and airline updates."
Additionally, BWI informed travelers of the following: "If you are traveling today or tomorrow, please arrive to the airport 4 hours early. We have not previously experienced checkpoint wait times similar to what we are seeing this morning. Travelers most impacted are those departing from Concourses A, B and C."
Again, if you have any travel plans from BWI, please plan accordingly.
