HURLOCK, MD - Deputy State Fire Marshals are investigating two separate fires that occurred at the same residence in Hurlock. Both incidents took place within hours of each other between Sunday night and Monday morning.

Investigators have determined that both fires were acts of arson.

The first incident was reported on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at 10:06 PM. The Hurlock Volunteer Fire Department responded to the 6300 block of Jones Village Road after a neighbor observed flames.

Fifteen firefighters arrived at the unoccupied, two-story wood-frame home. They brought the fire under control within five minutes.

Investigators determined that the fire caused approximately $2,500 in damage to the structure and $200 in damage to the home's contents. While a smoke alarm was present, it did not activate.

With the assistance of an accelerant detection canine, investigators found multiple points of origin throughout the house. The cause was ruled as incendiary. The scene was cleared at 2:00 AM.

At 4:20 AM on December 29, just over two hours after officials left the property, the fire department was alerted to a second fire at the same address. A neighbor once again reported the incident.

Firefighters arrived to find the home fully engulfed in flames.

Twenty-five firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze. Deputy State Fire Marshals determined that this second fire originated in the kitchen.

The structure was completely destroyed, with damages estimated at $80,000. Damage to the contents was estimated at $1,000. This incident was also determined to be incendiary.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal is urging anyone with information regarding these fires to come forward. The public can contact the office at 410-713-3780. Callers can remain anonymous.
