JOHNNY RAY HOLLAND CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED 2ND DEGREE MURDER AFTER SHOOTING AT FAMILY MEMBER
Somerset County, MD – On September 6, 2023, the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division arrested Johnny Ray Holland for attempted 2nd-degree murder, among several other additional charges.
The arrest followed a week-long investigation by the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office, in reference to an incident that was reported by Johnny Ray Holland’s brother, who was the victim in this incident.
On August 28, 2023, John Clifford Holland, a resident of Salisbury, Maryland, contacted the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office, to report this incident that he said occurred on August 18, 2023. The victim told investigators he traveled to his brother’s home in Marion Station, Maryland to visit his mother.
The victim advised that his mother lives with his brother, Johnny Ray Holland. The victim reported that Johnny Ray Holland was armed with a 12 gauge shotgun when he exited his residence and ordered the victim to leave his property.
An argument ensued between the two brothers, and Johnny Ray Holland reportedly fired one (1) round in the victim’s direction from approximately 30 feet away. The shot allegedly struck the ground close to where the victim was standing.
John Clifford Holland then closed the distance between them, at which time Johnny Ray Holland pointed the shotgun at the victim’s head and again ordered the victim to leave the property. The victim subsequently left the property.
Deputies continued the investigation, developed further information, and obtained security footage of the incident. A Search and Seizure Warrant was obtained and executed on the accused’s residence in Marion. The suspected firearm was located and seized.
Johnny Ray Holland was formally charged criminally with Attempted 2nd Degree Murder, 1st Degree Assault, 2nd Degree Assault, Reckless Endangerment, Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony, Openly Wear and Carry a Dangerous Weapon with the Intent and Purpose of Causing Injury.
A District Court Commissioner saw Holland for his initial appearance and subsequently ordered him to be held in the Somerset County Detention Center without bond.
On Thursday, September 7, 2023, Holland was transported back to the Somerset County District Court for bond review, where the judge ordered him to be RELEASED and placed on Electronic Monitoring pending trial.
