Kent County, MD - An investigation into a reported assault in the 21000 block of Woods Edge Drive in Chestertown, Maryland, has led to the arrest of a 32-year-old man.

Deputies responded to the residence after receiving a call about an ongoing assault. Upon arrival, screaming was heard from inside the home.

Following an investigation, Montrail Cortez Montgomery Jr. was arrested. He was subsequently charged with first-degree assault, along with additional offenses.

In addition to the assault charges, Montgomery was served with multiple outstanding warrants. These included a Queen Anne's County District Court bench warrant for failure to appear and a Talbot County District Court bench warrant for failure to appear.

Montgomery was also served with a Kent County District Court arrest warrant. This warrant included charges for fleeing and eluding, driving without a license, and numerous other traffic violations.

These charges stem from a previous incident on March 3, 2026. During that incident, Sgt. J. Watson attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a vehicle operated by Montgomery. Montgomery fled the traffic stop and was unable to be located by law enforcement at that time.

Following his arrest, Montgomery was held at the Kent County Detention Center on each of these violations.
