Laurel Police Arrest Suspect Following Vehicle Pursuit Involving Stolen Firearm and Narcotics

Laurel, DE - On March 19, 2026, officers with the Laurel Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that did not have a registration tag, which is required to operate a vehicle in Delaware.

During the stop, the driver refused to comply with the officer's lawful commands. As the officer attempted to remove the driver from the vehicle, the suspect fled the scene. The vehicle struck the officer during the departure.

Officers initiated a vehicle pursuit. The pursuit continued into the Wexford Apartment Complex on Sunset Drive in Laurel, Delaware.

The suspect subsequently lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a residential patio attached to an apartment building. Following the collision, the suspect fled on foot into the adjacent Little Creek Apartment Complex, which is on Little Creek Drive in Laurel, DE.

Officers quickly established a perimeter in the area. The suspect was apprehended without further incident shortly after. The individual was identified as 26-year-old Lenear Kellam of Laurel, Delaware.

A search incident to arrest was conducted upon taking Kellam into custody. Officers recovered a loaded firearm that was reported stolen from another jurisdiction.

The search also revealed approximately 21.7 grams of suspected crack cocaine and a large quantity of United States currency.

Kellam was transported to the Laurel Police Department for processing. He was charged with numerous offenses, including possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a controlled substance in a Tier 2 quantity, and receiving a stolen firearm.

Additional charges included resisting arrest, leaving the scene of a property collision, and multiple traffic violations.

Following his processing, Kellam was arraigned at the Justice of the Peace Court. He was subsequently transported to the Sussex Correctional Institute after failing to post a $168,000 cash-only bond.
