Laurel Police Arrest Two Subjects Following Reported of Shots Fired

Laurel, DE - On July 8, 2025, at approximately 9:40 AM, Laurel Police Department officers conducting proactive patrols near Discount Land Road and Grazing Court in Laurel, Delaware, observed a suspicious vehicle parked behind the 1100 building of the Holly Brook Apartment Complex.


When officers attempted to approach the vehicle, it attempted to leave the complex without activating its headlights, resulting in a public safety hazard. A traffic stop was conducted, during which officers were informed of a "shots fired" complaint in the Holly Brook Apartment Complex involving a vehicle matching its description.


Additionally, the driver, identified as Tyjah Jenkins, 22, and passenger Richelson Charles, 25, both of Laurel, were wearing clothing matching the suspects' description.


While on the traffic stop, Jenkins displayed signs of impairment, and officers conducted Standard Field Sobriety Tests (SFST), determining he was under the influence.


Both individuals were detained, and a subsequent search revealed the following:


  • 1,125 grams of marijuana
  • Two digital scales
  • Packaging materials
  • One loaded Glock 48 handgun
  • One loaded SAR 9x handgun


Tyjah Jenkins was charged with the following:

  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
  • Possession or Control of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person (Prior Violent Crime/Felony)
  • Manufacture/Deliver/PWID Controlled Substance
  • Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon (Firearm)
  • Possession of Controlled Substance (Tier 1 Quantity)
  • Possession of a Firearm While Under the Influence
  • Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol/Drugs
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Marijuana - Civil Violation)
  • Failure to Have Lights On When Required  


Bail was set at $54,102 cash, and Jenkins was committed to SCI.


Richelson Charles was charged with the following:

  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
  • Manufacture/Deliver/PWID Controlled Substance
  • Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon (Firearm)
  • Possession of Controlled Substance (Tier 1 Quantity)
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Marijuana - Civil Violation)  


Bail was set at $43,001 cash, and Charles was committed to SCI.
