Lewes Man Arrested on DUI and Weapon Charges Following Traffic Stop

Lewes, DE - A 42-year-old man from Lewes, Delaware, faces multiple felony charges following a traffic stop in Georgetown. On the night of January 22, 2026, a Georgetown Police Officer was patrolling near North Bedford Street.

Around 11:47 p.m., the officer noticed a black Chevrolet Tahoe driving south without its headlights on.

The officer initiated a traffic stop and contacted the driver, identified as Brian Govin. During the interaction, the officer observed an open container of what appeared to be alcohol in plain view.

A subsequent investigation determined that Govin was driving under the influence. A records check revealed that he had multiple prior arrests and convictions for DUI.

Govin was also found in possession of marijuana. Before the vehicle was towed, police conducted an inventory search and discovered additional drugs, drug paraphernalia, and a handgun. Due to a previous felony conviction, Govin is prohibited from possessing firearms.

Authorities charged Govin with a 4th offense DUI, which is a felony. He also faces charges including possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, and possession of an untraceable firearm.

Additional charges were filed for possession of a controlled substance and the initial lighting violation. Govin was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution in lieu of $91,000 cash bail.
