Local Man Arrested on 7th DUI Offense Following Hit-and-Run Crash
Dagsboro, DE - The Dagsboro Police Department arrested a 42-year-old man on multiple charges following a hit-and-run collision that injured four victims, including two children and a pregnant woman.
Joseph Longfellow was taken into custody on Saturday, October 25th, 2025, after officers responded to a crash at Armory Road and Prince George's Drive. The incident involved injuries to two children, one senior adult, and one pregnant adult female.
Police located Longfellow a short distance from the crash scene after his vehicle became disabled. The investigation revealed that Longfellow struck another vehicle containing the victims and attempted to flee at high speed. His vehicle subsequently collided with an Indian River High School license plate reader camera and a telephone pole, causing extensive damage.
Emergency medical services transported Longfellow to South Coastal Hospital for treatment. While at the hospital, he resisted arrest and assaulted officers and a nurse. He also threatened the life of a Dagsboro police officer.
Medical staff evaluated all victims involved in the initial collision. They were later released from care. Longfellow was released from medical care and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution.
He is being held on $26,006 cash bail and a $12,000 violation of probation hold.
The charges against Longfellow include 7th Offense DUI (Felony), Threatens Severe Physical Injury to a Public Officer (Felony), Offensive Touching of a Hospital Employee, Offensive Touching of a Law Enforcement Officer, two counts of Vehicular Assault 2nd Degree While DUI, Leaving the Scene of a Collision Involving Injuries, and multiple traffic violations.
