MAC and Salisbury Police Department Launch Telephone Reassurance Program
Wicomico County, MD - MAC has partnered with the Salisbury Police Department to introduce a Telephone Reassurance Program. This initiative is designed to support the safety and well-being of older adults and vulnerable community members in the Salisbury area.
Through the Telephone Reassurance Program, participants receive regular check-in calls. These calls are intended to provide reassurance, reduce feelings of isolation, and ensure individuals remain connected to necessary support networks.
The service acts as an added layer of safety for residents who live alone or have limited social contact.
By combining MAC's established focus on older adults with the Salisbury Police Department's public safety resources, the partnership aims to strengthen the local network of care.
"The Telephone Reassurance Program provides peace of mind and companionship to homebound seniors and those who just want someone to check on them. If we cannot reach them after three tries, we call their emergency contact," said Valerie Wagner, Project Director of The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program. "We are excited to begin this partnership with the Salisbury Police Department; it will help us reach more seniors in our community who may need this service."
The check-in calls have already demonstrated a measurable impact on community safety.
"In the past six months, we have had two clients who experienced falls. In each case, contacting the emergency contact helped ensure the client received prompt medical attention for their injuries," said Wagner.
MAC encourages community members, caregivers, and families to share information about the program with individuals who may benefit from regular wellness checks.
