Man Arrested Following Assault on Walmart Asset Protection

CAMBRIDGE, MD - On September 9, 2025, Cambridge Police Department officers arrested a man in connection with an assault at Walmart.
At approximately 4:50 p.m., officers responded to a report of an assault at the Walmart location. Upon arrival, police were informed that an individual had assaulted Asset Protection Officers and then fled the premises.
Officers located a subject matching the description near Bay Vanguard Bank on Woods Road. According to the report, the individual became hostile and was detained. He continued to act in a disorderly manner, leading to his arrest.
While being processed at the Cambridge Police Department, the subject allegedly assaulted an officer by kicking them.
The individual was identified as Derek Maloney, a 45-year-old resident of Cambridge, MD. Maloney was charged with Second-Degree Assault, Disorderly Conduct, and Obstruction and Hindering. He was later transferred to the Dorchester County Department of Corrections and is being held without bond.
