SALISBURY, MD - On October 16, 2025, Antravon Harmon, 28, of Salisbury, Maryland, was sentenced to 258 years of incarceration for his role in a mass shooting that occurred on July 5, 2023. The sentence was delivered by the Honorable Matthew A. Maciarello, Associate Judge of the Circuit Court for Wicomico County.
Harmon was convicted on eight counts of First-Degree Assault and eight counts of Firearm Use in a Crime of Violence, along with related firearms offenses. Of his total sentence, 45 years will be served without the possibility of parole. The sentencing followed a five-day jury trial in July, and Harmon remained in custody until the hearing.
The charges stem from an incident during the early morning hours of July 5, 2023. Harmon arrived at a neighborhood Fourth of July celebration near Chippewa and Kiowa Avenue. Shortly after midnight, Harmon and an associate armed themselves with handguns. They proceeded down Chippewa Boulevard, where they encountered Xavier Maddox and others in the crowd.
Harmon and his associate then brandished their firearms and began shooting into the group of party-goers, which resulted in a multi-person gunfight. The gunfire led to the death of Xavier Maddox and caused gunshot wounds to seven other individuals.
Wicomico County State's Attorney (SA) Jamie L. Dykes commented on the sentence, stating, "This violence in our community causes endless pain and suffering and must stop. For the sake of the victims in this case and all the law-abiding citizens of Wicomico County, I hope the Court's sentence today will serve as notice to those who would inflict this harm on others that there is a price to pay for such action."
SA Dykes commended the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office, the Salisbury Police Department, and the Maryland State Police for their response to the incident. She specifically acknowledged the lead investigator, Detective Kirkpatrick of the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office, for her diligent work on the case. SA Dykes also praised Deputy State's Attorney Scott Messersmith for his vigorous prosecution.
