On January 22, 2024 at approximately 7:45pm, Laurel Police Department officers were working a "Directed Patrol" shift in a two-officer vehicle.

"Directed Patrol" is a tool used by the Laurel Police Department in the busy summer months to allocate additional officers to proactively patrol high-crime areas of the Town of Laurel.  These officers are not responsible for responding to routine calls for service or traffic enforcement, and focus on locating wanted subjects and/or deterring violent crimes.

In light of the recent increase in violent crimes, additional "Directed Patrol" shifts have been assigned throughout the week and have seen significant success in crime interdiction.

During the patrol, officers observed Daniel Stanley (23) of Dover, DE, entering an apartment in the 100 Building of Hollybrook Apartments on Pasture Lane in Laurel, Delaware.

Officers attempted to make contact at the apartment with negative results. Having observed Stanley enter the apartment without leaving, officers stayed with the residence while another officer returned to obtain a search warrant.

The search warrant was approved, and upon execution of the search warrant Mr. Stanley was located hiding in a bedroom closet. He was taken into custody without further incident and transported to the Laurel Police Department for processing.

Mr. Stanley had an active warrant out of the Laurel Police Department for the following crimes:

  • Identity Theft (Class D Felony)

  • Theft Under $1500 (Class A Misdemeanor)

Additionally, he had two active Violation of Probation warrants from the Kent County Superior Court and the New Castle County Family Court.

Stanley was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 3 and released on $2,500 unsecured bail before being transferred to the Department of Corrections Violation of Probation Center.

He is presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
