Maryland Board of Public Works Authorizes Funding for Wicomico County Projects

SALISBURY, MD - On December 17, 2025, the Maryland Board of Public Works approved a series of grants and funding awards during a scheduled meeting. These authorizations include direct investments for Wicomico County, specifically targeting parks, recreation, land conservation, and community development initiatives.

More than $12.9 million in Maryland Department of Natural Resources grants was approved for local parks and land preservation projects on a statewide basis. Within these allocations, specific funding was designated for Wicomico County.

Funding was approved for the procurement of field lighting at Winterplace Park. The installation of this lighting is intended to improve safety conditions and extend the hours of operation for community sports and recreational activities.

Furthermore, Wicomico County was included in the Program Open Space - Local initiative, a program designed to preserve and enhance local green spaces for outdoor recreation.

Statewide awards for local and rural conservation programs were also authorized by the Board.

Regarding the approvals, Wicomico County Executive Julie Giordano stated, "These state investments are a meaningful win for Wicomico County. Improvements like the new lighting at Winterplace Park enhance safety, expand access to our recreational spaces, and support the families and youth who use them every day. We appreciate the partnership with the State of Maryland as we continue investing in our community."
