MARYLAND STATE POLICE ANNOUNCE STATEWIDE INITIATIVE OVER MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND

Memorial Day weekend is quickly approaching. While it marks the unofficial start of summer for many, the Maryland State Police are focused on ensuring a safe experience for all road users.
As part of a statewide initiative to address distracted, aggressive, and impaired driving, troopers will be out in full force, conducting DUI saturation patrols and implementing high-visibility enforcement campaigns.
Troopers from each of the 23 Maryland State Police barracks, along with the specialized SPIDRE Team, will be leading these efforts, supported by the Maryland Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration's Highway Safety Office. This collaboration demonstrates a shared commitment to promoting safer roadways.
During this busy travel weekend, Maryland State Troopers will employ various patrol strategies. Their primary focuses are ensuring smooth traffic flow, responding quickly to incidents, and taking decisive action against violations that threaten motorist safety.
In the Eastern Region, barracks in Berlin, Centreville, Easton, Princess Anne, and Salisbury will target high-risk routes, such as U.S. Routes 301, 13, and 50. Meanwhile, Central Region troopers from College Park to Westminster will enforce safety along interstates and state routes.
The Western Region will also be vigilant. Troopers from barracks like Cumberland and Frederick will focus on high-incident areas, including Interstates 81 and 70. The Hagerstown Barrack plans a dedicated Move Over Initiative for Memorial Day.
Northern and Southern Regions are equally watchful. Troopers from Bel Air to North East will concentrate on U.S. Route 40, while those from Annapolis to Prince Frederick will monitor major routes, including U.S. 50 and Maryland Route 4.
The Maryland State Police remind travelers to consider safe alternatives to driving under the influence. Options include rideshare services, taxis, or designating a sober driver. Public transportation is also available for those who prefer not to drive.
Together, these efforts aim to ensure a safe Memorial Day weekend. Travel safely and enjoy the start of summer responsibly!
