MARYLAND STATE POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING A FATAL TWO-VEHICLE CRASH IN SOMERSET COUNTY

Somerset County, MD - Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal two-vehicle collision that occurred in Somerset County this evening. The incident happened shortly before 5:30 p.m. and involved a Kia Soul and a Jeep, resulting in significant road closures and emergency response efforts.
The driver of the Kia, a 72-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. Passengers in the Kia sustained varying degrees of injuries.
One passenger was urgently airlifted by the Maryland State Police Aviation Command to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, while another was transported to a nearby hospital by ambulance. The driver of the Jeep also needed medical attention and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
The crash occurred near the intersection of Ocean Highway (U.S. Route 13) and Flower Hill Church Road.
According to a preliminary investigation, the Kia was attempting to cross southbound Ocean Highway when for unknown reasons, was struck by the Jeep.
In response to the crash, officers from the Maryland State Police Princess Anne Barrack quickly arrived at the scene. The southbound lanes of Ocean Highway have been closed to facilitate the ongoing investigation and cleanup operations. The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration is assisting with traffic management and road closures.
