Maryland State Police Investigate Inmate Homicide in Hagerstown

STATE OF MD - Maryland State Police are investigating the death of an inmate at the Maryland Correctional and Training Center in Hagerstown.

The deceased has been identified as 36-year-old Wenhui Sun. He was serving a sentence at the state prison when the incident occurred.

At approximately 3 p.m. on December 16, the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit received a notification from the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services Internal Investigative Unit regarding the death.

A preliminary investigation indicates that an altercation took place between three inmates, including Sun.

Following the altercation, Sun was transported to the medical unit, where he was pronounced dead by emergency medical services personnel.

Two suspects, who are also inmates at the facility, have been identified by authorities. Their names are being withheld until charges are officially filed.

Investigators from the Homicide Unit and crime scene technicians from the Forensic Sciences Division responded to the scene to process evidence.

The investigation is currently active and ongoing. Upon completion, the findings will be presented to the State's Attorney's Office in Washington County for review.
