Maryland State Police Investigating Fatal Crash in Kent County

Kent County, MD - Maryland State Police are conducting an investigation into a fatal two-vehicle crash reported this morning in Kent County, Maryland.


The incident resulted in the death of a 25-year-old male, the driver and sole occupant of a Ford van. His identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.


Troopers from the Maryland State Police Centreville Barrack responded at approximately 7:23 a.m. this morning to southbound U.S. Route 301 at Maryland Route 313 (Galena Road).


Preliminary findings indicate that the crash occurred when a tractor-trailer, stopped at a railroad crossing, was struck from behind by the Ford van for reasons currently under investigation.


All southbound lanes remain closed at this time.


Maryland State Police are receiving support at the scene from the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division, Aviation Command, Kent County Sheriff's Office, and Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration personnel.


Upon completion of the investigation, the findings will be forwarded to the Kent County State's Attorney's Office for determination on potential charges.
