MARYLAND STATE POLICE INVESTIGATING FATAL SHOOTING IN WICOMICO COUNTY

Salisbury, MD - As reported on Eastern Shore Undercover's social media pages, the Maryland State Police are investigating a Friday night fatal shooting that took place in Wicomico County.

At approximately 8:10 PM, Officers from the Maryland State Police, Wicomico County Sheriff's Office, and Salisbury Police Department responded to the 900 block of North Division Street in Salisbury, Maryland for a report of a shooting. 

According to a preliminary investigation, the victim, a male, was walking down the street when he was shot multiple times.

The victim, whose identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was declared deceased at the scene by emergency medical service personnel. 

The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit is leading this investigation. Salisbury Police are assisting in this case. Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact the Maryland State Police at 410-430-1556.

Maryland State Police have identified the victim of the shooting as Richard Darlington Smith, a 49-year old Salisbury, Maryland resident.

Investigators from the Maryland State Police need your help! Police are asking any residences who have external surveillance cameras in the North Division Corridor, including the New Town, Johnson Lake and Emmerson Avenue neighborhoods to contact the Maryland State Police Salisbury Barrack, and an investigator will make contact to review the footage. Investigators are looking for footage that occurred between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Friday, February 16, 2024.  Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact the Maryland State Police Salisbury Barrack at 410-749-3101
