MATT OWENS TO LEAD WORCESTER COUNTY EMERGENCY SERVICES AND FIRE MARSHALS OFFICE

Snow Hill, MD - Fire Marshal Matt Owens, a respected leader in public safety, has been appointed by the Worcester County Commissioners to lead both Worcester County Emergency Services (WCES) and the Fire Marshal's Office. 

Recognized for his extensive knowledge of fire and emergency medical services, Owens has a strong track record in coordinating emergency planning, response, and recovery strategies. His career with Worcester County Government, starting in 1996, spans over a quarter of a century.

Over the years, Owens has been influential in public safety and education. He is part of the faculty at Wor-Wic Community College's Police Academy, teaching the next generation of law enforcement and correctional officers.

Coming from a family of firefighters, Owens' relationship with the fire service runs deep. He joined as a volunteer firefighter at 13, following in his father and brother's footsteps. Throughout the years, Owens has remained an active volunteer firefighter, embodying his dedication to public safety.

He's mindful of the trust given to him by the County Commissioners and is committed to making Worcester County an even safer place for its residents and visitors.

Owens has led the Fire Marshal's Office since 2022. The office is responsible for enforcing all fire-related laws in the County and three municipalities. It conducts fire safety inspections and investigations, handles hazardous materials response and planning, reviews new construction plans, and educates the public about fire prevention.

Under Owens's leadership, WCES will oversee all matters related to emergency management, including operating the County's 911 system and P25 800 MHz Radio Division. His role also extends to serving on the Local Emergency Planning Committee and acting as a liaison with fire, ambulance, and police departments.

As he steps into his expanded role, Owens expresses gratitude and love for his family's unwavering support. Originally from Snow Hill, Maryland, he is married to Kim, and they have two sons, Tyler and Trevor.
