Mayor Meehan Honored as Tourism Advocate of the Year
Ocean City, MD - Mayor Rick Meehan has been named the Tourism Advocate of the Year by Chesapeake Charities. The recognition was part of the organization's annual "Celebration of Charity" luncheon held on Thursday, November 13, 2025.
This year's event honored Maryland's tourism industry, recognizing leaders who have significantly impacted the community. Mayor Meehan was selected for his long-standing leadership and advocacy for tourism. His efforts include supporting local businesses and maintaining a welcoming environment for the millions of visitors Ocean City receives annually.
"Tourism is the lifeline of Ocean City and a cornerstone of Maryland's economy," said Mayor Meehan. "It's an honor to accept this award on behalf of the Town of Ocean City and to be recognized among so many who share a passion for promoting our state and preserving what makes it special. This award reflects the dedication of our community, our hospitality industry, and all who work tirelessly to make Ocean City a place people love to visit year after year."
The mayor also thanked Chesapeake Charities for the recognition. He acknowledged former Senator Jim Mathias and Seacrets founder Leighton Moore, who presented him with the award, noting their friendship and shared commitment to Maryland's tourism sector.
