Millsboro Man Arrested Following Hit-and-Run Bicycle Collision in Bethany Beach

BETHANY BEACH, DE - On August 24, 2025, the Bethany Beach Police responded to a hit-and-run incident involving a bicyclist. The collision occurred at approximately 4:45 P.M. in the 600 block of Garfield Parkway in Bethany Beach, Delaware.
Officers arrived to find a 22-year-old victim with minor injuries. The victim declined medical treatment at the scene.
Police determined that the suspect, Chad James, age 41, from Millsboro, Delaware, fled the collision scene. James was driving a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado and traveled westbound on Route 26.
Bethany Beach Police Officers observed the vehicle's direction of travel. They issued a "Be On the Lookout" alert to surrounding law enforcement agencies.
Ocean View Police Department located the described vehicle traveling through their jurisdiction. Officers conducted a traffic stop on the Silverado, and the Ocean View Police arrested the driver, Chad James, for Driving Under the Influence.
Bethany Beach Police completed warrants against James on multiple charges:
- Vehicular Assault 2nd Degree (Misdemeanor)
- Leaving the Scene of a Collision Resulting in Injury (Misdemeanor)
- Driving Vehicle on Sidewalk or Bike Path (Violation)
- Failure to Report a Collision Involving Alcohol or Drugs (Violation)
James was arraigned by Justice of Peace Court #3. He was released on a $500.00 unsecured bond to a co-signer.
