Milton Police Arrest 20 Year Old for DUI Following High-Speed Pursuit
Sussex County, DE - On March 21, 2026, at approximately 1:00 a.m., a Milton Police Department officer observed a black Mazda passenger car traveling westbound on Milton Ellendale Highway.
The vehicle was seen driving partially on the grass shoulder. The officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop. However, the driver of the Mazda accelerated to speeds exceeding 100 mph.
The vehicle eventually came to a sudden stop in the roadway. The driver, a 20-year-old male, exited the vehicle and fled on foot into a nearby wooded area.
A foot pursuit was initiated, and the officer subsequently apprehended the suspect. The individual was identified as Alex Hernandez-Vicente.
During the interaction, the officer detected a strong odor of alcoholic beverages emitting from Hernandez-Vicente. Numerous empty beer cans were also located inside the vehicle.
Further investigation determined that Hernandez-Vicente did not possess a valid driver's license.
Hernandez-Vicente was arrested and formally charged with several offenses. These charges include driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, drinking while driving, underage consumption of alcohol, resisting arrest, and driving without a valid license, in addition to numerous other traffic violations.
Due to his level of impairment, Hernandez-Vicente was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution to await arraignment.
