MOTOR VEHICLE CRASH IN CAMBRIDGE LANDS MAN WITH DUI CHARGES

Cambridge, MD - Late night on February 23, 2024, a motor vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of Atlantic Ave and Race St in Cambridge, Maryland, prompting an immediate response from the Cambridge Police Department. 

The incident occurred when a vehicle, reportedly drove off the roadway and collided with another. The vehicle was operated by Patrick Shawn Hurley, a 48-year-old Cambridge, Maryland resident. 

Upon Cambridge Police's arrival, officers engaged with Hurley and observed signs suggesting intoxication. Hurley's behavior, coupled with the distinct smell of alcohol, raised concerns about his sobriety.

Despite the officers' observations and requests, Hurley refused to comply with any Standardized Field Sobriety Test (SFST). This led to his arrest and transportation to the Cambridge Police Department for further investigation. 

Police report that Hurley continued his noncompliance by refusing to submit to a breath test at the station.

Aside from his refusal to cooperate, Hurley violated an alcohol restriction on his license which requires him to operate vehicles only equipped with an ignition interlock device - a measure used to prevent individuals from driving under the influence. The vehicle that Hurley was found operating during the incident was not equipped with such a device.

Hurley was later released, however, is facing multiple traffic offenses from this arrest.

  • Driving Vehicle in Violation of Restricted License Requirement

  • Driving Vehicle While Under the Influence of Alcohol

  • Driving Vehicle While Impaired by Alcohol

  • Reckless Driving

  • Negligent Driving

  • Failure to Display Registration Card Upon Demand

  • Driving Vehicle Not Equipped with an Ignition Interlock as Required by Program
