Salisbury, MD - On May 1, 2024, at about 3:53 p.m., the Worcester County Sheriff's Office and Wicomico County Sheriff's Office were both dispatched to the 900 block of McGrath Road in Salisbury, MD, for a motor vehicle crash that turned into much more.

Deputies discovered that two victims were assaulted during this incident by a suspect who had fired shots at them from a nearby residence.

Law enforcement requested additional backup and surrounded the location where the suspects were believed to have gone. Three suspects emerged from the residence a short time later and were promptly taken into custody.

The investigation led to the arrest of Benjamin Pennewill, a 44-year-old Eden, Maryland resident. Pennewill now faces numerous charges, which include two counts each of first and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, and firearms-related offenses.

Pennewill has been ordered to be held without bond. On May 3, 2024, Pennewill will have a bond review hearing in a Worcester County District Court.

In addition to Penniwell, 19-year-old James William Savage from Salisbury, Maryland, was arrested and charged with one count each of second-degree assault and malicious destruction of property. He was held at the Worcester County Jail, where his bond was initially denied.

On May 2, 2024, James Savage appeared in Worcester County District Court before Judge Bruce Wade, where he was given a $10,000 bail bond. He has since posted bail and been released from the Worcester County Jail.

The third suspect, 51-year-old Lisa Renee Savage of Eden, Maryland, faces a single count of malicious destruction of property. However, unlike her counterparts, the commissioner released Savage on her own recognizance.
