Salisbury, MD - On October 24, 2025, a Wicomico County jury convicted 18-year-old Mykel Elliott of Salisbury, Maryland, on multiple charges, including First-Degree Murder, Attempted First-Degree Murder, and Gang Participation. The verdict was delivered after a five-day trial in the Circuit Court for Wicomico County, presided over by Chief Judge K. Beckstead.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred on April 16, 2023. The investigation revealed that Elliott and his associates targeted two individuals in retaliation for a video posted online earlier that evening, which they perceived as a challenge in an ongoing gang dispute.

Elliott and the others located the victims at Pizza City in Salisbury, where they shot one individual to death and wounded another with multiple gunshots.

Following the conviction, Elliott will remain in custody pending his sentencing. In connection with this case, one other defendant has pleaded guilty to First-Degree Murder, and another individual has been convicted as an Accessory After the Fact.

Wicomico County State's Attorney (SA) Jamie L. Dykes commented on the verdict, stating, "Elliott's conviction underscores what law enforcement can achieve through coordinated, determined investigation and prosecution. Despite many obstacles, including the secretiveness inherent in gang activity and the difficulty in identifying and engaging witnesses who live in fear of the gang element, justice prevailed in this case. The jury's courage in delivering their verdict reflects their commitment to truth and community safety."

SA Dykes praised the Maryland State Police (MSP) Homicide Unit and the Salisbury Police Department (SPD) for their thorough investigation. She specifically recognized the efforts of lead investigators Sergeant Wildman of the MSP Homicide Unit and Detective Glynn of the SPD, along with Detective Doyle of the SPD, for their work throughout the investigation and trial.

SA Dykes also commended Deputy State's Attorney D. Scott Messersmith, who served as the lead prosecutor in the case.
