State of DE - A Newark man has received a life sentence for the 2021 murder of Dmajah Tickles. On February 13, 2026, Tramont Mitchell, 39, was sentenced to life plus 50 years in prison. This follows his conviction earlier in 2024 by a Superior Court Jury.

The jury found Mitchell guilty of First Degree Murder and Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony.

Additionally, a judge convicted him on a severed charge of Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited.

Attorney General Kathy Jennings commented on the sentencing. "Yet again, another life has needlessly been cut short by gun violence," said Jennings. "The work done here by our trial team and the Wilmington Police Department means justice for the victim and his family and a safer Delaware for all of us."

The incident occurred on May 19, 2021. Mitchell fatally shot 19-year-old New Castle resident Dmajah Tickles on the 2300 block of Carter Street in Wilmington.

The Wilmington Police Department conducted an investigation following the shooting. Officers arrested Mitchell at his home in Newark on March 2, 2022.
