OCEAN CITY FIRE DEPARTMENT ANNOUNCES LEADERSHIP TRANSITION

Worcester County, MD - The Ocean City Fire Department has announced a significant leadership transition as Fire Chief Richard Bowers will retire on April 11, 2025, after a distinguished career in fire service spanning over four decades.
Chief Bowers joined the department in 2019 and has played a key role in its expansion and modernization, including the completion of the state-of-the-art Fire Station 3 in 2024.
City Manager Terry McGean expressed gratitude for Chief Bowers' dedication, acknowledging his considerable influence and hard work throughout his tenure.
As the department prepares for this transition, Joshua J. Bunting III has been appointed as the Acting Fire Chief for the 2025 season. Chief Bunting, who has a family legacy of service in Ocean City, began his firefighting career as a cadet.
His experience and commitment have helped him advance through various roles, including Deputy Chief and Fire Marshal. His deep connection to Worcester County and extensive expertise will ensure a smooth continuation of leadership.
Additionally, Joseph E. Sexauer has been appointed as Acting Fire Marshal. A native of West Ocean City, Sexauer has advanced through the ranks since starting as a cadet. His career in fire service features multiple leadership roles and specialized training, particularly as a certified Bomb Technician. His appointment reflects a commitment to maintaining high public safety standards through experienced leadership.
