Ocean City, MD - The Town of Ocean City has released its second storm update as a powerful coastal storm approaches the mid-Atlantic region. The National Weather Service has issued forecasts for heavy rain, strong winds, and moderate coastal flooding beginning Saturday night and continuing through Monday, October 13, 2025.

Mayor Richard Meehan addressed the community regarding the approaching weather system. "We want our residents, visitors, and business owners to take this storm seriously and begin preparing now," said Mayor Richard Meehan.

Weather Forecast and Expected Impacts

The storm will bring sustained winds of 35 to 45 mph with gusts exceeding 50 knots. Street flooding of 1 to 2 feet is expected in various areas throughout the town.

Officials have identified several areas of particular concern. These include downtown from the Inlet to 15th Street, Isle of Wight Mobile Home Park, Warrens Park, Little Salisbury, and several northern bayside neighborhoods. The Route 50 bridge base may become impassable during the storm.

The conditions may result in flooded roadways and localized power outages. Officials predict the storm's effects will be similar to those experienced during Superstorm Sandy in 2012. The Town has advised the public to remain alert, avoid driving through standing water, and prioritize safety.

Storm Timeline

Heavy rainfall and strong winds will begin late Saturday night. The storm will intensify from Sunday into Monday with multiple high tide cycles expected to worsen flooding in low-lying and bayside communities.

High tide cycles are scheduled for:

  • Sunday, October 12, 2025, around 1 p.m.

  • Monday, October 13, 2025, around 1 a.m.

  • Monday, October 13, 2025, around 1 p.m.

Emergency Response and Shelter Information

The Town's Public Works, Police, Fire Department, and Emergency Services departments are fully staffed and prepared to respond throughout the storm period. Emergency personnel will maintain 24/7 operations during the weather event.

A temporary shelter will open at the Roland E. Powell Convention Center, located at 4001 Coastal Highway, Ocean City, MD 21842. The shelter will begin operations on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at noon.

Residents utilizing the shelter should bring essential items including food, medications, clothing, chargers, and personal necessities.

Preparation Guidelines

Town officials have provided preparation recommendations for residents and visitors. Individuals should secure outdoor furniture and loose items that could become projectiles. Electronic devices and power banks should be charged in advance of the storm.

Emergency supplies should be prepared including flashlights, batteries, and necessary medications. Vehicles should be parked on higher ground and removed from roadways when possible to prevent flooding damage and maintain emergency access routes.
