Ocean City, MD -The Town of Ocean City announced the launch of its new Every Tree Counts mini-grant program on August 18, 2025. The initiative provides eligible residents with $100 vouchers to purchase and plant trees from an approved selection list.

Trees serve multiple environmental functions in urban settings like Ocean City. They provide natural habitat for wildlife and pollinators, which supports biodiversity in developed areas. The natural shade and cooling effects of trees help reduce outdoor temperatures and decrease residential energy consumption.

Trees also contribute to water quality improvement and erosion control. These functions help protect the ocean and bay environments that surround Ocean City. Native Maryland coastal trees are particularly well-suited to the local environment and demonstrate greater disease resistance, resulting in reduced maintenance requirements.

The Maryland Coastal Bays Program provided funding for this tree planting initiative. Program eligibility is limited to residents and property owners within the corporate limits of Ocean City. All trees must be planted within the town's boundaries.

The program operates on a limited quantity basis for reimbursements. Applicants may submit requests for multiple tree vouchers. The application deadline is set for Friday, November 14, 2025.

Interested residents can access program information and submit applications through the town's environmental website at oceancity.green. The site contains the approved tree list and voucher application materials.
