Ocean City, MD - The Ocean City Police Department (OCPD) released a detailed update regarding its public safety response over the July 4th holiday weekend. The department reported a heightened police presence throughout the town to address crowd dynamics and ensure public safety during the busy holiday period.

On the evening of July 3, OCPD received multiple calls related to large gatherings on beaches and surrounding properties between 120th and 125th Streets. Officers responded with a proactive approach, deploying units such as ATVs and the Mounted Unit to address safety concerns from residents and businesses.

A shift in behavior from traditional Boardwalk activities toward beach gatherings and bonfires was noted, prompting high-visibility patrols in both beach areas and residential communities, including Assawoman Drive, to deter further incidents.

Throughout the holiday, OCPD maintained a full staffing level of officers, Public Safety Aides, and command personnel stationed strategically across Ocean City.

Support from the Maryland State Highway Administration enhanced traffic safety enforcement initiatives. Officers concentrated on impaired driving enforcement, bicycle and e-scooter regulations, and pedestrian safety measures.

Specialized beachfront patrols were conducted using ATV units to oversee highly populated areas. The Ocean City Fire Marshal's Office worked in conjunction to monitor bonfire permits and address illegal fireworks activities.

"Our officers and allied agency partners worked around the clock to keep Ocean City safe during this hectic holiday weekend," said Chief Raymond Austin. "While we did respond to several serious incidents, the quick action of our officers, the support of our regional partners, and the vigilance of our community helped us manage these isolated incidents safely and efficiently. We remain committed to maintaining a strong, visible presence throughout the rest of the summer season."
