OCEAN CITY POLICE FOCUS ON PREVENTING UNDERAGE DRINKING WITH COMPLIANCE CHECKS

Ocean City, MD - The Ocean City Police Department, in collaboration with the Worcester County Health Department, has announced plans to conduct alcohol compliance checks throughout the summer season. These checks will take place at bars, restaurants, and alcohol retail locations across the resort area.
To address the risks associated with underage drinking, this enforcement initiative will involve individuals under the age of 21 who will work under the direct supervision of plainclothes law enforcement officers. These individuals will attempt to purchase alcoholic beverages to verify compliance with Maryland alcohol laws.
Ocean City Police Chief Raymond Austin emphasized the importance of these efforts, stating, "Our top priority is protecting the health and safety of our youth. Preventing access to alcohol is a critical part of reducing risky behavior, potential harm, and long-term consequences for underage individuals."
Local businesses are encouraged to remain vigilant in their responsibilities. The Ocean City Police Department has urged business owners and employees to consistently check identification to ensure compliance with the law.
Selling alcohol to individuals under the age of 21 is not only a legal violation but also poses serious risks. Offenses can result in damage to reputations, legal consequences for both employees and establishments, and potential endangerment of lives.
This initiative reflects a broader commitment by Ocean City authorities to maintain the resort's reputation as a safe and family-friendly destination.
