OCEAN CITY, MD - The Ocean City Police Department has launched an investigation into multiple reports of fraudulent check activity originating in the West Ocean City area.

Authorities began looking into the matter on November 7, 2025, after discovering that checks were being stolen directly from residential mailboxes.

According to investigators, the suspect or suspects involved are "washing" the stolen checks-a process where ink is chemically removed to alter the payee and amount-before attempting to cash them at various banks throughout Worcester County.

Police have identified a female suspect in connection with these incidents. She was reportedly using a fraudulent Georgia driver's license under the name "Kimberly Williams."

The suspect was last observed on the morning of November 7, 2025, at approximately 10:15 a.m., driving a silver SUV with unidentified Maryland license plates.

To help prevent further theft, officials advise residents to deposit outgoing mail at secure post office locations or hand it directly to a carrier. Residents should also monitor incoming deliveries closely, remove mail promptly, and utilize electronic bill pay services whenever possible.
