OCEAN CITY SPECIAL EVENT ZONE IN AFFECT MAY 14-19, 2024
OCEAN CITY, MD - Ocean City is revving up its safety measures as it prepares to welcome thousands of car enthusiasts next week for the highly anticipated Cruisin' Ocean City. From Tuesday, May 14, to Sunday, May 19, the bustling resort community will adopt the status of a Special Event Zone, a move designed to ensure maximum safety for both participants and spectators.
In accordance with legislation signed in 2020, a range of enhanced penalties for specific motor vehicle violations will be in effect. The tempo in the Special Event Zone will slow down as speed limits are reduced, and fines for violations will significantly increase. As in a construction zone, offenders could face stiff penalties, including increased fines or even arrests.
Residents and visitors can anticipate a high-profile police presence as Ocean City Police Department joins forces with officers from the Maryland State Police and the Worcester County Sheriff's Office to enforce traffic laws strictly. This collaboration will result in high congestion and alternative traffic patterns throughout the weekend.
The city is urging spectators to respect pedestrian traffic by keeping the sidewalks clear and refraining from inciting drivers to perform "burn-outs" or spin their wheels-dangerous and illegal actions. There will be zero violation tolerance, with officers enforcing laws for spectators and drivers.
In anticipation of high pedestrian traffic, the city encourages everyone to practice smart walking habits. Always use crosswalks when crossing roadways, wait for the signal to change, and make sure drivers see you while you cross.
As Ocean City gears up for a week of automotive excitement, the focus remains clear - safety first. Whether you're a car enthusiast or a resident, make Cruisin' Ocean City a safe and memorable experience.
