OFFICE OF THE STATE FIRE MARSHAL'S OFFICE INVESTIGATING FRIDAY AFTERNOON SHED FIRE

Wicomico County, MD - On May 16, 2025, a structure fire occurred on Athol Road in Mardela Springs, Wicomico County, Maryland. The incident involved a wood-framed shed, measuring 20 feet by 30 feet, which was primarily used for storage.

The fire resulted in an estimated total loss of $5,000, with $3,000 attributed to the structure itself and $2,000 to the contents of the shed.

The primary responding team was the Mardela Springs Volunteer Fire Company, which dispatched a dedicated crew of 20 firefighters to manage the incident. They were able to get the fire under control within 10 minutes of arrival.  

The fire was discovered by the homeowner, who immediately notified the fire department. The preliminary investigation is ongoing, but initial observations suggest that the fire started within the shed.
