Pedestrian Struck by Vehicle on Coastal Highway in Dewey Beach

DEWEY BEACH, DE - A 28-year-old woman from Columbia, Maryland was injured after being struck by a vehicle while crossing Coastal Highway on Saturday evening.


The incident occurred at approximately 7:20 p.m. on August 30, 2025, near the intersection of Coastal Highway and Dagsworthy Avenue.


The Dewey Beach Police Department responded to reports of a personal injury accident involving a pedestrian.


Officers found the pedestrian conscious but injured at the scene. According to the preliminary investigation, the woman was crossing Coastal Highway in a westerly direction when the accident occurred.


The pedestrian had successfully crossed the outside lane of the northbound highway. She was then struck by a Cadillac Escalade that failed to stop for her crossing.


Video surveillance footage confirmed that crosswalk signals were functioning properly at the time of the incident.


Based on evidence collected at the scene, investigators determined the Escalade driver was at fault.


The Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Department transported the injured pedestrian to Beebe Medical Center. She is currently receiving treatment for injuries that are not considered life-threatening.


The driver of the Escalade, who is from Alexandria, Virginia, remained at the scene following the collision. The driver cooperated with law enforcement throughout the investigation and was issued multiple traffic summons before being released.
