Pennsylvania State Police Corporal Fatally Shot During Traffic Stop in West Caln Township
National News - Pennsylvania State Police Corporal Tim O'Connor was fatally shot in the line of duty last night. The incident began when the trooper responded to a call regarding an erratic driver in Honey Brook just after 8:00 p.m.
A traffic stop was subsequently initiated by Corporal O'Connor at the intersection of Compass Road and Michael Road in West Caln Township.
A radio call was made by Corporal O'Connor to indicate the traffic stop, notifying dispatchers that he had located the vehicle and had stopped the vehicle. He did not respond to subsequent radio communications. Officers in the area responded to the location and discovered a scene that investigators are classifying now as a murder-suicide.
Investigators believe that the driver of the vehicle opened fire within seconds of Corporal O'Connor approaching the stopped vehicle. Corporal O'Connor was killed at the scene.
Investigators determined that the driver then exited the vehicle and fatally shot himself. The identity of the suspect is not being released at this time, but officials confirmed he is a 32-year-old man from Chester County, PA.
Corporal O'Connor was a 15-year veteran of the Pennsylvania State Police. He is survived by his wife, Casey, his parents, Maureen and Tim, and a young daughter.
