Cambridge, MD - A fire on Thursday afternoon caused substantial damage to a pole barn in Dorchester County. The incident occurred in the 5300 block of Town Point Road in Cambridge, Maryland, and was reported around 4:50 p.m.
The affected structure, a 40x120-foot pole barn, sustained an estimated $100,000 in structural damage, along with an additional $50,000 in losses to its contents.
Officials stated that the fire was discovered by an occupant of the property. The Rescue Fire Company, the primary responding fire department, arrived on the scene quickly, with several assisting agencies. A total of 52 firefighters responded to the two-alarm fire, which took approximately 120 minutes to bring under control.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the cause of the fire was accidental, resulting from the spontaneous combustion of hay stored inside the barn.
