PRESTON MAN HELD ON NO BOND AFTER BEING ARRESTED FOR MULTIPLE SEX ABUSE CHARGES

Caroline County, MD - On April 25, 2025, the Caroline County Sheriff's Office, in collaboration with the Caroline County Department of Social Services - Child Protective Services, initiated a thorough investigation into allegations of sexual abuse involving a juvenile victim.
As the investigation progressed, unsettling accusations surfaced against Michael Scott Burgess, a resident of Preston, Maryland. A juvenile victim disclosed that they were being sexually abused by Burgess.
On May 7, 2025, detectives from the Criminal Investigation Division arrested Burgess on a arrest warrant sanctioned by the Caroline County District Court. The charges against him are serious and include First and Second Degree Rape, Third Degree Sex Offense, Sex Abuse of a Minor, Incest, First and Second Degree Child Abuse, First and Second Degree Assault, Reckless Endangerment, and False Imprisonment.
Michael Scott Burgess appeared before a Caroline County District Court Commissioner for his initial hearing. Due to the severity of the charges, he was denied bail and remains in custody at the Caroline County Detention Center.
