PURSUIT ON A MOTOR SCOOTER LEADS TO ARREST OF WANTED SUBJECT AND NEW CHARGES INCLUDING FIREARMS OFFENSES

Cambridge, MD - On April 29, 2024, at approximately 10:55 pm, Officers from the Cambridge Police Department attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a motorized scooter around Rigby Ave and Camelia St for multiple traffic infractions.  

The operator of the motor scooter failed to stop for the officers and continued to drive in a reckless manner, running stop signs and disobeying traffic laws governing the operating of motorized scooters.  

The operator continued to flee from officers on the scooter until the 500 block of Saunders Ave, where the operator lost control of the scooter, jumped off and began to flee on foot.  

While fleeing on foot officers observed the subject reaching into his waistband area of his clothing.  

The subject was apprehended in the 800 block of Park Lane.  

The subject was identified as Chavonne Anthony Corbin-Stanley (34 years old of Cambridge, MD).

Due to the actions of Corbin-Stanley, a large crowd had converged on the area.  

Search incident to arrest officers located an empty holster for a handgun.  Also located on Corbin-Stanley's person was a plastic bag containing a quantity of Crack Cocaine.

Due to officers locating an empty holster for a handgun and gestures observed by Corbin-Stanley while running, a K9 Unit from the Talbot County Sheriff's Office was requested to assist with an article search of the area where Corbin-Stanley was fleeing on foot.  

During the search, the K9 Unit located a loaded Canik TP9 9mm handgun.  The firearm was found to contain a total of 16 rounds.  

Corbin-Stanley was transported to the Cambridge Police Department for processing and his initial appearance before a Court Commissioner.  

Corbin-Stanley was found to have multiple active warrants, which were also served on him.  

Corbin-Stanley was later turned over to the Dorchester County Department of Corrections on No Bond.

- Warrant #1: Anne Arundel County District Court Bench Warrant for Failing to Appear in Court on 12-13-2023 on an original charge of Driving Motor Vehicle on Highway Without a License.  Released in his personal recognizance.

- Warrant #2: Talbot County Circuit Court Body Attachment for Failure to Appear.  Warrant used as a detainer.

Corbin-Stanley was charged with the following charges from the current incident:

- Loaded Handgun on Person

- Resist Arrest

- Disorderly Conduct

- Fail to Obey Lawful Order

- Obstruct and Hindering

- CDS Possession Not Cannabis (Cocaine)

- CDS Possession Paraphernalia

- Use Motor Scooter on Highway Without Functioning Rear Light

- Failure of Individual Display License

- Operate Motor Scooter Without Permit or License

- Owner of Motor Scooter Failure to Display Decal

- Person Driving Motor Vehicle on Suspended License

- Driving While License Suspended

- Driving Without a License

- Fail to Display Registration Card

- Operate Unregistered Vehicle

- Driving Without Current Registration

- Failure to Properly Place Registration to Vehicle

- Driving Uninsured Vehicle

- Negligent Driving

- Reckless Driving

- Failure to Obey Properly Place Traffic Control Device Instructions

- Fail to Drive Vehicle on Right Half of Roadway

- Fail to Stop at Stop Line

- Fail to Stop at Stop Sign

- Failure of Driver to Drive to Curb Upon Signal by Police Vehicle
