QUEEN ANNE'S COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE CHARGE MAN WITH ALCOHOL RELATED DRIVING OFFENSES

Queen Anne's County, MD - On May 25, 2025, Queen Anne's County Sheriff's Deputy First Class (DFC) Johnson was on patrol in the area of eastbound Route 50 when he responded to a broadcast about a potentially intoxicated driver.
Around 10:30 PM, DFC Johnson identified a vehicle that matched the broadcast description and observed that it was unable to maintain its lane.
DFC Johnson conducted a traffic stop near the junction of Route 50 and Route 301. He approached the driver, who was identified as Robert Pitts, and immediately noticed signs of impairment and a strong smell of alcohol on Pitts' breath.
Pitts agreed to perform standardized field sobriety tests (SFSTs), but he did not execute them satisfactorily, which led to his arrest. He now faces multiple charges, including Driving Under the Influence (DUI), Driving While Impaired (DWI), reckless driving, negligent driving, unlawfully changing lanes in areas restricted by traffic control devices and failure to comply with traffic control devices.
