State of Delaware - Attention all fishing enthusiasts! If you're planning to cast your line at Delaware's drive-on beaches this summer, please note that surf fishing reservations will be required for weekends and holidays.

Starting Saturday, May 24, reservations will be in effect and can be secured beginning Tuesday, May 20, at 11 a.m.

The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) has implemented this reservation system to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for anglers at the seven popular Delaware State Parks' multi-use beaches.

Holders of annual and two-year surf fishing permits must make reservations if they want to drive onto these beaches from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. during peak times through Labor Day.

Reservations open on the Tuesday before a summer Saturday and on Wednesday for a summer Sunday. Interested participants can secure their spot online on a first-come, first-served basis, with a nominal, non-refundable fee of $4 per vehicle per day.

It's also important to remember that surf fishing reservations on weekdays are not mandatory unless they coincide with a holiday. For holidays that fall on a weekday, bookings can be made starting the Thursday prior. Special holiday dates include Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, and Labor Day.

DNREC's Division of Parks and Recreation has enhanced the reservation system based on angler feedback. Now, when you enter your valid surf fishing permit number, your vehicle's license plate number, state of issuance, make, and model are automatically linked to your reservation details. This makes it easy to manage multiple reservations under one account.

To reserve your surf fishing spot, visit destateparks.com/surf-fishing or call 800-499-8221 during designated hours. Remember to print and display your reservation confirmation in your registered vehicle for verification by Delaware Natural Resources Police.

By organizing your visit with a reservation, you guarantee access to Delaware's stunning drive-on beaches for a day of surf fishing, even if general parking has reached its limit. DNREC also encourages those who cannot make it to cancel their reservations, providing other anglers the opportunity to enjoy Delaware's natural beauty.

Plan ahead, secure your spot, and prepare for a fantastic summer of surf fishing in Delaware!
