Richard A. Henson Foundation Contributes $1 Million to Wicomico Library Project

Wicomico, MD - The Wicomico Public Library has received a significant $1 million contribution from the Richard A. Henson Foundation in support of its initiative to build the Paul S. Sarbanes Library on Schumaker Pond.
This donation, one of the largest in the library's history, will fund the construction of the Richard A. Henson Meeting Hall, a 2,200-square-foot space set to host events, meetings, and celebrations.
The Sarbanes Library, set to open in Summer 2027, will serve as the flagship branch for Wicomico Public Library. The Design Reveal & Campaign Kickoff event, held recently, highlighted the library's mission to enhance community engagement and provide modern educational resources.
During the event, Richard A. Henson Foundation Chairman Greg Olinde emphasized the organization's dedication to community improvement by quoting the foundation's namesake, Richard A. Henson, who stated, "Individuals and businesses have a social and humanitarian responsibility to improve the community in which they live."
The Sarbanes Library will include advanced facilities, diverse programs, and an inviting atmosphere surrounded by natural landscapes. "A library is such a critical component of what makes a vibrant community," said Mr. Olinde. "It offers more than books, including technology, programs, and resources that allow residents to learn, connect, and thrive."
The library's Building Our Library Together campaign is actively seeking additional support to fund further enhancements. Contributions can be made via the campaign page on the Wicomico Public Library website.
