Wicomico County, MD - The Maryland State Highway Administration has scheduled important repairs for the US 50 Business (Salisbury Parkway) drawbridge, a vital route over the Wicomico River in downtown Salisbury.

This essential maintenance work is set to begin on Friday, May 2, and is expected to finish by early Monday, May 5, assuming favorable weather conditions.

Starting at 7 p.m. on Friday, the drawbridge will be closed to traffic in both directions to allow for necessary steel repairs. During this time, traffic patterns will be temporarily adjusted. Eastbound drivers will be rerouted via Lake Street, Isabella Street, and Mill Street before rejoining US 50.

In contrast, westbound traffic will take a detour through Mill Street, Isabella Street, and Lake Street.

For a more streamlined travel experience, the US 50/US 13 (Salisbury Bypass) is recommended as an alternative route. Covington Machine and Welding, an experienced contractor based in Annapolis, will oversee the operation and will use various guidance mechanisms, such as variable message signs, cones, and barrels, to ensure safe navigation through the detour.

The goal is to complete all work on the drawbridge by mid-May, restoring normal traffic flow as quickly as possible. These repairs highlight the Highway Administration's commitment to maintaining the safety and integrity of critical infrastructure while minimizing inconvenience for commuters and residents. Motorists are encouraged to plan their travel accordingly to avoid delays during this period.
