National News - On January 20, 2026, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) executed a targeted operation to apprehend Adrian Alexander Conejo Arias. Conejo Arias is identified as a national of Ecuador who had previously been released into the United States by the Biden Administration.

Following the operation, rumors began circulating in several media outlets, claiming the child was "snatched by ICE".

Clarifications have now been issued regarding the presence of a minor at the scene.

Authorities confirmed that the child was not the target of any enforcement action. When agents approached the vehicle, Conejo Arias fled on foot. This resulted in the child being left behind, unattended.

An ICE officer remained with the minor, a 5-year old boy, to ensure his safety while other officers proceeded with the apprehension of the suspect.

The agency outlined standard procedures regarding minors in these situations. Parents are offered the choice to be removed alongside their children or to designate a safe guardian to take custody.

This protocol is consistent with established immigration enforcement practices with the current and previous administrations.

Additionally, the agency highlighted the availability of the CBP Home app. This tool allows individuals to coordinate their own departure.

The program provides a free flight and $2,600 in assistance. Utilization of this app allows individuals to maintain the possibility of returning through legal channels in the future.
