Cambridge, MD - The Cambridge Police Department and the City of Cambridge have issued a reminder regarding safety on waterfront areas. It is currently considered unsafe to be on ice-covered bodies of water within Cambridge and Dorchester County, Maryland.

Surfaces may appear frozen solid, but structural integrity cannot be guaranteed. A risk of falling through thin ice into frigid water exists.

Current conditions present significant challenges for first responders attempting safe retrieval operations. The public is advised to remain off the ice.

Protocol regarding pets has also been established. If a pet wanders onto an ice-covered area and cannot safely exit, owners should contact emergency responders by calling 911. Personal attempts at retrieval should be avoided to prevent putting individuals at risk.

Photographs were captured on the morning of February 2, 2026, by the Cambridge Police Department Drone Unit. These images depict waterfront areas around Cambridge and reveal open areas in the ice, confirming the lack of safety.
