SALISBURY FIRE DEPARTMENT'S EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICE DIVISION RECEIVES PRESTIGIOUS AWARD

The Salisbury Fire Department's Emergency Medical Services (EMS) division has recently received the prestigious Maryland Stars of Life Outstanding EMS Program Award. This honor, awarded by the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems (MIEMSS), recognizes the remarkable SWIFT (Salisbury Wicomico Integrated Firstcare Team) initiative.
The SWIFT program represents a vital partnership between the Wicomico County Health Department, Tidal Health, and the Salisbury Fire Department (SFD). It addresses a significant community need by reducing non-emergency calls to 911 and effectively connecting residents with appropriate health resources.
To tackle this issue, the SWIFT team identifies Wicomico County residents who have made more than five non-emergency calls to 911 within a six-month period. These individuals receive outreach from a dedicated team consisting of a paramedic from the Salisbury Fire Department and a nurse practitioner from Tidal Health's Community Health team.
The team conducts home visits and assists participants in accessing primary care providers, behavioral health services, and other essential support systems.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved in bringing this important program to life. The frontline EMS personnel, healthcare partners, and public health officials have demonstrated tremendous vision, compassion, and commitment to improving our community's well-being.
The SWIFT initiative is more than just a program-it serves as a lifeline and a testament to the effectiveness of collaboration in achieving excellent health outcomes and a more efficient EMS system. This week's award highlights the innovation and dedication that underpin the program's success.
Congratulations to the entire SWIFT team on this well-deserved recognition and thank you for your commitment to making Salisbury a stronger, healthier community.
