Salisbury Firefighters Extinguish Fire at Senior Apartment Complex
Salisbury, MD - The Salisbury Fire Department responded to a reported apartment fire on the afternoon of January 21, 2026. The incident occurred at a senior apartment complex located in the 700 block of Taft Court in Wicomico County, Maryland.
Firefighters arrived at the six-unit, one-story structure at approximately 2:44 p.m. A total of 15 firefighters from the Salisbury Fire Department were dispatched to the scene. The team brought the situation under control within 10 minutes.
The fire originated in a wastebasket in one of the apartments. Investigators determined the preliminary cause to be accidental, resulting from improperly discarded smoking materials.
Both smoke alarms and the sprinkler system were present and activated during the incident.
One resident has been displaced.
The estimated damage is valued at $5,000 to the structure and $1,000 to contents. The fire was initially discovered by the property owner.
